Why First Songs?
As a Bachpan Manao collabaction, Billion Readers (BIRD), Pratham Education, and EkStep are creating a video collection of First Songs with Same Language Subtitles (SLS).
We aim to include as many languages as possible, preserving the sweet childhood memories for today’s children and celebrating the joy of growing up.

Lullabies across India
In India, lullabies are known by different names across various languages —
Lori in Hindi, Halardu in Gujarati, Tharattu in Malayalam, Thalattu in Tamil, Nanabaya gita in Odia, Angai in Marathi, Nisukoni in Assamese, and so on.
In Kongthong village, Meghalaya, every child is said to have their unique lullaby. This reflects the immense diversity of lullabies, or what we call “First Songs,” sung daily across India.
